Overview
This is an International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) funded grant with collaboration from the Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Economics at MSU. The work to be done is part of project “The Pakistan Strategy Support Program (PSSP)” which was launched in July 2011 as a flexible country-wide policy analysis and capacity strengthening program being implemented by International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and its partner Innovative Development Strategies (IDS). The core purpose of this program is to provide support on policies affecting agricultural growth and food security.
Objectives
The primary outputs required from the AFRE collaborator will be to:
- Prepare scholarly working papers on productive efficiency among farmers interviewed under Round 1/1.5 and Round 3/3.5 of the Pakistan Rural Household Panel Survey (RHPS) in 2012;
- Contribute to the sampling design, questionnaire design, data cleaning, descriptive analysis, and write-up of the RHPS Round 3.5 that will be conducted in late 2014 or early 2015;
- Assist senior research staff in their research needs which may include economic, statistical, econometric and qualitative analysis in the form of desk research, literature reviews, or responses to data requests.
Specific emphasis will be placed on applications of production economics to the RHPS data, official data from federal and provincial sources, and data from other sources such as the National Fertilizer Development Corporation. Studies topics will include: a literature review of advances in productivity analysis; studies of farm-level technical and allocative efficiency; comparisons against previous studies to evaluate changes in sources of efficiency in recent years; analyses of input-specific technical efficiency and risk management strategies by farmers.
