MSU Tollgate Farm in Novi, Michigan has interactive, educational, and fun school and community field trips designed children in grades 3-5.
From Sheep to Sweater (September-November)
The wooly world of yarn! Come to the farm and have an experience the blends agriculture, science, and creativity. Students will meet the Tollgate sheep, learn how to turn wool into yarn, and knit their own project to take home!
Taking Shelter: Animal Homes (December-January)
Set against the backdrop of quiet, snow-covered Tollgate farm—get a deeper understanding of animal behavior, habitats, and survival strategies during the winter season. Explore a variety of animal shelters and then work in small groups to build your own.
The Story of Maple (February-March)
Take a walk through the woods this season as we uncover the story of syrup! At Tollgate Farm, we bring maple syrup to life as students not only learn the history of maple syrup production but also get hands-on experience making this tasty treat!
Incredible Eggs: Exploring Embryology (April-June)
Crack into the fascinating world of embryology and chicks this spring! We may not be able to answer which came first, but chickens and eggs have quite the connection to explore. Explore egg composition while dissecting eggs, learn about chick incubation, and meet our chickens!
