Welcome back, alumni!
You may remember your department by a different name — Community, Agriculture, Recreation and Resource Studies (CARRS); Parks, Recreation, and Tourism; Agriculture and Natural Resources Education and Communication Systems (ANRECS); and many others. With so many changes, we understand it’s hard to keep track.
Our department name is now the Department of Community Sustainability (CSUS) — and it’s one that we consider you a member of!

What we've been up to
Welcome back to the Department of Community Sustainability alumni network!
We want to highlight three recent announcements—Three CSUS researchers win an Award of Distinction at the 2025 North Central American Association for Agriculture Education for their work investigating agricultural teacher retention. Aisha Abdulkadri, Environmental Studies and Sustainability major in CSUS, was awarded the 2025 CANR Alumni Association Scholarship. This award is chosen by a panel from the Alumni Board to recognize student excellence in their programs. Finally, this fall the department welcomed two new faces to the Agriculture Education programming in CSUS. Kevin Nugent joined the FFA team as the Contest and Recognition Coordinator, and Dr. Jessica Toombs joined as an Assistant Professor in the Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Education degree program to support the growing interest in the major. Congratulations to all of our award winners in their accomplishments!
