Join us for Farm Safety Day on Saturday, March 28th from 11:00 AM to 1:15 PM, an educational event focused on keeping farm families, workers, and operations safe. This informative session brings together experts to share practical guidance, real-world examples, tools and resources tailored to agricultural operations. 

There is no cost to attend but registration is required; this session will be limited to 60 attendees. Pizza and beverages will be provided.

11:15-12:15 Tractor/PTO Safety
Hailey TenHarmsel, Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, Occupational & Environmental Medicine 
During the past eight years at Michigan State University in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Hailey has worked on multiple projects assessing occupational illnesses. She has helped develop algorithms and procedures to access a new data source, the Michigan Emergency Management System, to add to Michigan’s multi-data source occupational injury and illness surveillance system, coordinated a study of all Michigan sand and gravel miners and a study of the genetic susceptibility to beryllium-related disease. She conducts surveillance for occupational acute pesticide illnesses and injuries, crushing injuries, and farm-related injuries across the state of Michigan.

12:15-12:45: Ergonomics, Preventing Secondary Injury, and Chronic Pain Management
Samantha Wolfe, Michigan State University Extension, Statewide Agricultural Occupational Health Educator working with the AgrAbility Program
Samantha's expertise encompasses a range of experiences, including managing a rotational grazing beef operation and working for a third-party verification program focused on mitigating on-farm environmental risks. With a background in environmental education and outreach, Samantha is passionate about collaborating with growers and producers across different operation sizes and sectors to identify solutions and enhance their operations. She holds a B.A. in Environmental Studies from Kalamazoo College and an M.A. in Biology from Miami University's Global Field Program. 

12:45-1:15pm: What Fire Departments Need to Know about Your Farm
A representative from Charlevoix Fire Department will discuss the types of questions fire departments need to know on an active fire call to your farm.
