AGL Tile Drain Monitoring
Project Summary
The purpose of this project is to support the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) in its efforts to understand sediment transport, nonpoint source nutrient conditions, and hydrology (collectively referred to as ‘water quality monitoring’) in the Western Lake Erie Basin (WLEB) to help achieve the 40% phosphorus reduction goal.
The project team will deploy water quality monitoring instruments throughout the five selected priority sub-watersheds (Headwaters Saline River, LaPointe Drain, Lime Creek, Nile Ditch, and Bear/Black Creek) to better understand current water quality conditions and how land use changes and climactic events impact water quality conditions.
This work builds on a current effort by Michigan State Institute of Water Research (MSU IWR) with support from the Alliance for the Great Lakes (AGL) to develop a comprehensive water quality monitoring strategy in the WLEB.
