Agricultural Support Technician
Position Summary
Provide support and guidance to new, existing, and expanding farms through the development
of nutrient management plans for farms of all sizes across Michigan. Daily responsibilities
include collecting and organizing data to prepare nutrient management plans tailored to
individual farms. This entails conducting on-farm interviews, completing inspections to assess
and document current conditions, and writing reports based on findings as well as developing
solutions to natural resource concerns at the farm. As experience and skills develop, a more
tailored role will be created based on the new hire’s abilities.
Responsibilities
Collect, manage, organize, and update farm information (soil tests, field boundaries, animal
numbers, crop information, and manure test results) to keep plans up to date using
spreadsheets, GIS programs, and tailored software.
Communicate with farmers, government offices, and regulators in a professional manner via
email, written correspondence, and verbally.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in soil/earth science, agriculture, engineering, crop/plant science, or animal
science is preferred, but relevant agricultural experience will also be considered.
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
The ideal candidate will show strong evidence of
Problem solving abilities, ability to develop and maintain client relationships, strong
organizational skills, technical and analytical skills, ability to work well independently and within
a team. Demonstrate initiative and have strong organizational and administrative skills.
Experience with GIS and data management is preferred but not necessarily essential.
Physical demands
• Walking on rough or uneven ground and steep slopes in farm fields and on farms
• Working around potential hazard areas (construction sites, manure storages, and active
farms) in dusty, dirty, and smelly conditions
• Ability to work for long periods using a computer to write reports and enter data
• Frequent travel to visit farm clients
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 lbs. of equipment through the field
• Ability to dig holes with shovel or similar equipment
Job Type Full Time M-F 8-5
Pay $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year

meet the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Michigan Department of
Environment Great Lakes and Energy (MDEGLE), and the Michigan Agricultural Environmental
Assessment Program (MAEAP) standards. We support clients through CAFO permitting, Right
to Farm compliance, US-EPA compliance and we assist our clients through the process of
planning new or expanding existing farms. We help companies develop and apply for permits to
build anaerobic digesters at farms.
