Applied Field Research Assistant - Regulatory
Description
The Regulatory Science Organization at Bayer is seeking highly motivated and self-driven individuals for summer research assistants reporting to the Mason, MI field site. Candidates will assist the Field Testing Scientist with implementing all aspects of corn and soybean field and lab research operations that support the submission and registration our biotech traits pipeline. The position requires 100% commitment to all safety protocols and maintaining regulatory compliance. Individuals must be detailed, able to work independently and in team environments under adverse weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold), and sometimes extended hours during peak times.
Physical labor components may include heavy lifting, bending, and walking. This is a seasonal position with flexible start/end date and employment extension opportunities.
Responsibilities may include:
- Assist with data collection including plant sampling and quantitative observations
- Support planting, tillage, and harvest activities
- Assist in small plot maintenance and pesticide applications
- Tractor and powered equipment operation
- Hand pollinating corn
- Scout field sites for compliance volunteer monitoring audits
- Packaging and inventory of warehouse materials
- Maintain equipment in research ready condition
- Assist with day-to-day activities directed by team leaders
Qualifications
Required skills
- Compliance with all safety/quality/regulatory requirements
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management, organizational, and analytical skills
- Able to work independently and in team-based settings
- Effective verbal and electronic communication skills
- Knowledge and ability to use handheld PC and/or iOS devices
- Valid driver’s license in good standing
- Currently or able to obtain MDARD commercial pesticide applicators license
- Ability to work fulltime including overtime and weekend activities
Desired skills
- Currently pursuing a degree program in Agriculture
- Applied knowledge of regional crop production
- Experience with small plot data collection
- Power equipment operation, maintenance, and repair
