Crop Research Technician Internship
We are seeking students who are interested in developing their agronomic skills. Positions will be based out of Dewitt and Marshall, Mi. Travel to work at our North Carolina farm may also be included. This position calls for a candidate who can work both independently, and with a team in a fast-paced environment based around delivering the most accurate and dependable research data.
Responsibilities will include:
- Learning crop growth stages, their pests, and general farming practices
- Crop planting activities
- Setting up, scheduling, and operating irrigation
- Making or assisting with fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide, or insecticide applications on trial plots
- Keeping records of applications
- General plot and field maintenance
- Data collection
- Application record keeping
- Nematode sampling
- Harvesting research plots
- Keeping company facilities, chemicals, and tools organized
- Company vehicle and property maintenance
Ideal candidate should be able to:
- Lift 40 lbs. and perform light manual labor
- Work outside, stand, walk, kneel, and stoop for extended periods
- Walk uneven fields
- Work independently while following directions
- Communicate effectively with co-workers
- Ask meaningful questions
- Have a good work ethic
- Be punctual and willing to work
- Function as a team player
- Be interested or enrolled in agricultural studies
- Have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
- Current MDARD certification for Private Spray Applicator is a plus
Starting pay is competitive, with sign on and end of the season bonuses. Interns will be expected to work 40-50 hours per week, 4-5 days each week. Interns may be asked to work one weekend day during planting/harvest season. We will work to accommodate your summer school schedule but ideal candidates should be available 40 hours per week.
