General Duties and Responsibilities

Internships with Rooted By Keits involve work focusing on gaining and improving knowledge of the general workings of a family owned and operated greenhouse and plant nursery. An intern will perform manual labor which may expose them to intense weather, especially heat and humidity, and dust, dirt and chemicals. All interns are required to follow safety policies and procedures as instructed by nursery personnel.

All internships may include these responsibilities:

· Maintaining accurate nursery records

· Helping routine nursery tasks including, but not limited to, planting, watering, weeding, trimming, retail sales, and all daily greenhouse, gardens and field maintenance

· Conducting an independent project determined by intern’s interest

· Performing other duties as assigned by Owners and Nursery Management

General Nursery Management Internship

This internship will help the participant understand various aspects of the nursery business and how they work together to make Rooted by Keits nursery operate and grow successfully.

Duties and responsibilities may include:

· Working in every section of the nursery-growing, delivery, sales, production, propagation, greenhouse maintenance, field operations, inventory and more

· Learning about technologies and equipment used in the nursery operation

· Participate in general nursery duties:

o Provide quality Customer Service to all Nursery guests

o General nursery work. May include weeding, planting pots and fields, and miscellaneous duties as needed

o Splitting plants to uniform sizes appropriate for planting

o Maintaining product quality by removing weeds and dead plant material

o Watching for and reporting any pest and disease problems

o Assisting with activities in all greenhouses such as weeding, watering, plant and display organization, fertilizing etc.

o Assisting in the sowing of seed trays, collecting and cleaning trays

o Assisting with general nursery projects which may include light construction and irrigation installation and repair

o Assisting in delivery and shipping which may include organizing plants, boxing plants, checking plants for accuracy and quality, paper work, loading and unloading trucks

o Assisting in maintenance of landscape and display gardens

o Attending staff meetings

Desired Qualifications:

· A strong willingness to learn and a good work ethic

· A passion for plants

· A student enrolled or deciding to enroll in an academic program studying horticulture, agriculture business, environmental sciences or other related studies (not required)

· Must be at least 18 years of age

· Must be eligible to work in the United States

· Must have a valid driver’s license

· Must provide own transportation
