Horticulturist Internship

Details: April–October (Flexible, 6 wk. minimum; 30-40 hours/wk.)

Job Description

Shared responsibility for planting and maintenance of all perennial/annual beds and container plantings on the property. Pruning shrubs and trees. Assisting with tulip planting (Autumn). Use of power tools and mowing equipment as needed. Weekend watering on rotation. Participation in horticultural programming as requested. Possible assistance in finding summer housing if needed.

Job Qualifications

Requirements: - Proven prior experience with horticulture background preferred. Some knowledge with interest in learning more about annuals, perennials, trees and shrubs. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and must be available to work weekdays and occasional weekends. Subject to a criminal background check and physical. Position may be extended or renewed upon completion.

Internship for Spring/Summer 2024 to work with passion at Windmill Island Gardens – an established Dutch-themed heritage park in West Michigan. Windmill Island Gardens features 30 acres of cultivated gardens, pastureland and natural areas. We maintain two greenhouses, formal beds, combination pots, hanging baskets and over 100 varieties of trees and shrubs. Windmill Island Gardens is a member of the American Public Garden Association and American Horticulture Society as well as the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association.
