Summary: The Nursery Manager maintains good health and organization of the nursery stock. They are responsible for all plant and material orders making sure crews have the products and supplies needed to complete each job on time. Knowledge of plants and plant care as well as general inventory, budgeting and management experience are qualities of our ideal candidate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Nursery:

• Daily inspection of plant health

• Establish and use an effective irrigation program

• Co-ordinate with MDARD inspector for yearly pest and disease diagnosis and control

• Maintain a good nutrient regimen with plants as needed

 

Inventory:

• Track and order all plants and materials needed to fulfill customer orders and have all items on hand and staged before the start of each project

• Work with Operations manager to establish efficient incoming and outgoing processes to create and maintain an accurate inventory of plants and materials.

• Budgeting. Exercise fiscal prudence in managing the nursery budget, meticulously tracking expenditures. Make informed financial decisions that balance operational needs with long-term sustainability.

• Calculate and set yearly sale prices for the designer to use in estimates for plants and materials using LMN software and other excel documents.

 

Design:

• Communicate with the design team in an ongoing basis and during weekly meetings to give general updates on nursery stock: Discrepancies, Pest & Diseases, Substitutions, and Overstock, Etc.

• Recommend current inventory stock for use in designs

• Liaison customers through the nursery as needed to show and recommend plants for their design.

 

Equipment:

• Ability to use and become proficient with loaders, skid steers, fork lifts, tree spades and other various equipment used for loading and unloading

• Routine oil checks and maintenance required on equipment assigned
