Location: Two positions in the south half of Lower Michigan with
concentrations in the Allegan/Kent/Ottawa area and the
Ingham/Livingston/Washtenaw area
Job Description
This position serves as support to MDARD’s plant and pest detection programs, performing field
work that could include collecting and processing plant survey samples and assisting with plant
health inspections. This position offers a maximum of 719 hours per year and 129 hours per
month. Workdays are M-F and the hours per week/day vary by project and time of year. The
position lasts from May through December 31st
. The position requires statewide travel.
Tasks
• Perform insect trap monitoring and outreach activities related to invasive species.
• Assist field and laboratory staff with sample collection and processing.
• Assist with survey and inspections for invasive species or other significant plant pests.
• Assist with Nursery and Christmas tree inspections.
Preferred Education and Experience
• High school education
• Some biology/horticulture/entomology/plant pathology experience either in a classroom
environment or at another job is preferred.
