A Post-Doctoral Research Associate position is available with the University of Tennessee’s School of Natural Resources (SNR), in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory (FPL). This position is stationed at the U.S. Forest Service’s FPL campus in Madison, Wisconsin, and works closely with a collaborative team including scientists at FPL and SNR in carrying out a variety of research studies including the assessments of techno-economic feasibility and life cycle environmental impacts of utilizing small diameter trees for mass timber production, as a part of FPL’s R&D Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Wildfire Crisis Strategy Research, and estimating wood use in the construction sector, e.g., blue print analysis, as a part of FPL’s project on allocation of forest products into various end uses. This is an exempt, benefits eligible, grant-funded position, available to start as soon as November 1, 2024, offering a competitive salary, with an initial appointment of one year which may be extended for an additional year depending upon satisfactory job performance and continued availability of funding.


QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree obtained prior to the position start date in a relevant field, such as Forestry, Wood Products, Natural Resources, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or a closely related field, with a strong interest in interdisciplinary research in forestry/wood products or construction industry. All but dissertation (ABD) applicants will be considered. Familiarity with techno-economic feasibility analysis, life cycle analysis, and skills related to estimating wood use in construction sector, e.g., blueprint analysis, is preferred.
