A post-doctoral research associate position is available at the University of Tennessee’s School of Natural Resources (SNR), in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory (FPL). This position is stationed on the UT Institute of Agriculture campus in Knoxville, Tennessee, though a remote or hybrid location may be negotiated for the most desirable candidate. The successful candidate works closely with a collaborative team including scientists in SNR and FPL in carrying out a variety of research studies, including economics of alternative forest management regimes for wildfire prevention, e.g., hazardous fuel reduction treatment, and supply chain network assessment of utilizing small diameter trees for mass timber production, as a part of the Forest Service’s R&D Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Wildfire Crisis Strategy Research. This is an exempt, benefits eligible, grant-funded position, available to start immediately, offering a competitive salary with an initial appointment of one year which may be extended for an additional term depending upon satisfactory job performance and continued availability of funding.


QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree obtained prior to the position start date in a relevant field, such as Forestry, Forest Management/Economics, Forest Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong interest in interdisciplinary research in forest economics and management. All but dissertation (ABD) applicants will be considered. Familiarity with Forest Inventory Analysis (FIA) dataset, Forest Vegetation Simulator, GIS, and supply chain network analysis is preferred.
