Position Summary(Basic Job Function)
This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides technical support. Responsibilities may include computer programming or operations; research support; medical patient care; technical equipment maintenance, repair, fabrication or operation; or other technical support functions.
Unit Position Summary
The technician will support the research and extension missions of the Tree Fruit IPM Academic Specialist. Current projects are focused on building a digital pesticide decision database to help apple growers achieve effective, economical, and environmentally sustainable pest management. Other projects will involve visiting orchards around Michigan for pest scouting and pollinator field research. There will be opportunities for professional development in both research and extension, with the potential to help develop educational programming and resources for fruit growers.
This will be partially in a laboratory/office setting, but also in field settings working in fruit farms across Michigan. Duties will also include managing pesticide database, collecting field data, analyzing results, and assisting in developing reports. This position will require driving and working outdoors in hot summer conditions. Also need to have the ability to work independently.
Valid Vehicle Drivers License Required.
Desired Qualifications
A four-year college degree (or equivalent experience) in Entomology, Biology, Horticulture, or related field of study.
Data management experience
Field work experience
