UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
IN ORGANIC FRUIT ENTOMOLOGY
We are seeking an undergraduate student to participate in a mentored research experience related to pest management of invasive spotted-wing drosophila in organic fruit. Students will have the opportunity to gain valuable lab and field research skills in a supportive environment, connect with research labs and students across the country, and learn about organic fruit production systems, all while getting paid!
Program structure: Students should commit to full-time employment from mid-May to mid-August. Students will spend 45% of time working on a mentored research project, 45% of time on general lab and field work, and 10% of time will be devoted to professional development workshops and mentoring activities.
Qualifications:
- Must be a currently enrolled undergraduate student at Michigan State University in biology or related field
- Ability to work in both field and lab environments
- Ability to work cooperatively & independently
- Enthusiasm, willingness to learn and ask questions
- Have an interest in biological systems research
Students who have faced systemic barriers to accessing higher education and other educational opportunities or are underrepresented in the sciences are encouraged to apply. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and driver’s license is required
