2022 Farm Animals Camp: Day 3
Popsicles, Wonder Dogs, and More Beans!
Farm Animal Camp: Day 3
Wonder Dogs!
What a great way to start the day! the campers had a wonderful morning visit from two lovely Black Labradors, Jack and Trixie. The former is trained to help with certain tasks in the wild, and loved to jump into the water to catch the batons that were being thrown. Trixie is a licensed therapy dog that everyone got to give pets, and Trixie absolutely loved it!
Apples & Cornbread
Because it was so hot outside today, we focused on quick and easy meals that the campers didn't have to do much other than play games while waiting, which every camper was happy to have more times to play games. Some delicious apple slices with some sun butter was perfect, and the vegan cornbread was absolutely splendid for our afternoon. Reminder! This week's Garden Kitchen recipes will be posted over the weekend or Monday morning for you to enjoy at home.
Bean Harvest!
Of course, the beans were so cool to learn about and observe closely, that we had to go back and pick some more of the more colorful beans, which we call 'dragon tongue' beans, that are similar to the green beans, but appear in different colors. Camper got to take home whatever they picked, or they could eat them immediately after washing!
Popsicles? Enrichment.
Well, not for the campers. We made popsicles for the chickens, and some fun toys for the bunnies. We made the chicken popsicles with corn and water, frozen in a small cup, that the chickens would be able to peck at for cold water and food. In this way we taught the campers about 'enrichment' through the animals.
Hiking
We did a wonderful hiking trip...with a baby goat! These little friends of ours love to be outdoors and walk around, with some fun treats to eat as well. We could take the goats to walk around the hay fields, into the forest, or out near the pond to enjoy the shade of the trees. Each camper got to lead the goat along the path and the baby goat certainly had a great time!
