2023 Green Science Adventures Camp Day 1
| Check out all the exciting things we did on our first day of 2023 Summer Camps!
The MSU Tollgate Farm summer camps have officially started! We are so excited and ready to give our campers so many fun activities and a memorable time. With our Green, Yellow, Orange and Red Pepper groups, this summer camp is going to be the best one yet! Let’s take a look throughout our Green Science Adventure Camp on our first day of the week:
Animal Chores: Goats, Ducks, & Rabbits
Here at MSU Tollgate Farm we love our animals, so the first thing that some of our campers did was our Animal Chores. Where they helped us clean the rabbit cage, sprayed down the duck coop, along with cleaning the goat troughs. While doing these chores they learned about animal safety, and how to treat them well. Our campers love to do each task!
Garden Kitchen: Cottage Cheese Greek Dip & Tangy four bean salad
Garden Kitchen is LOVED by all the campers because they get to make a yummy snack and learn about cooking. In the morning today, campers learned how to make a yummy cottage cheese Greek dip served with carrots and celery. All Garden Kitchen recipes the campers make, they get a recipe book to take home at the end of the week! In the afternoon we made another delicious snack: tangy four bean salad! A good way to end the day!
STEM Sustainable Farming
Campers learned what it means to be sustainable and used their imaginations to figure out how the farm might look. Then got right to drawing, asking so many questions as they went along. Tomorrow campers will add onto their sustainable farm.
Track Trap
This activity was all about how to fill a trap to catch an animal. Each pepper group put some treats in and laid it on some cardstock with ink then hid them near the pond and the children's garden. Then tomorrow they get to make predictions of what animal might’ve ended up in their trap.
Fishing Practice
All pepper groups practiced casting a fishing line into a hula-hoop before actually doing it in the pond on Tuesday! They also learned the importance of safety while casting a line, to make sure no one is behind them while they cast their line. We cannot wait to see what fish our campers try to catch tomorrow!
Tie Dye
Today, our campers got sweet MSU Tollgate shirts to tie dye! Our amazing Educational Leaders helped out. Even in the rain, that won't stop these campers from tie-dyeing shirts. Each camper was patient with sharing to make their shirts as colorful as they can be! At the end of the day, each camper got to take their shirt home, to wash and wear.
Erosion Activity
Due to the rain, the pepper groups had a change of plans and ended up doing an activity to learn about erosion. In each section there's different rocks, woodchips and dirt, then water was poured into one of them to see if it could travel through.
That's all! Hope you enjoyed reading about what our campers got up to on this rainy Monday. This blog will be continued to be updated about Green Science Adventure Week!
