2023 Survival Camp Day 2
First Aid, shelters and more!
Survival Camp Day 2!
STEAM: Shelter Building
Campers continued to work on their shelters today. Since they planned ahead on Monday, they were prepared and packed the right supplies to build their shelter. Tomorrow they're going to go and simulate a stranded situation.
LNT 1, 2, 3, 4 (leave no trace)
You know when you visit a National Forest, Lakeshore, etc. and they got signs up for leave no trace? Well, when you hike in, you hike out like you were never there. Campers learned the importance of picking up after yourself such as trash, fire debris, and anything else you bring. They also learned to leave what you find. So if you pick up a rock, leaf, branch, you make sure to put it back.
Wilderness First Aid
If you're out hiking and someone in your group gets injured it's important to know the correct first aid. There were multiple stations where campers learned how to do a splint, hypo-wrap/burrito-wrap, and a daisy chain litter. They all did so well with learning the first aid!
Garden Time: Volunteers
Campers headed out to the garden to see our amazing volunteers! They looked at seeds, discussed lima beans, made paper helicopter seeds, and some groups picked cucumbers!
Fishing
Everyone put their skills to the test today and caught a bunch of fish! Even saw our snapping turtle. Each week campers always look forward to fishing in our pond, some get concerned about catching our snapping turtle.
Come back tomorrow for more! Check out more photos here:
