BHEARD Scholar Attends International Workshop on Advanced R & R-QTL

EmailBHEARD scholar Md Farhad recently attended the 2nd International Workshop on Advance R & R-QTL.
The International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) is a non-profit, non-political organization that conducts agricultural research for development in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa with a wide array of partners throughout the world. I was recently awarded a sponsorship and was given the opportunity participate in the 2nd International Workshop on Advance R &R-QTL in December 2018.
Statistics, Bioinformatics and Data Management (SBDM) Theme, ICRISAT in collaboration with Professor Karl Broman from the Department of Biostatistics and Medical Informatics, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and Dr. Aniruddha Ghosh from University of California, Davis organized the training course.
The workshop was really helpful to build up my career in molecular plant breeding. I learned about the advanced operations of R and its different implications in biometrical analysis. Use of R to prepare a report by using R-Markdown and connecting R in GitHub repository for live streaming of analysis was a new knowledge.
The participants were from more than 20 national across the globe. Knowledge sharing among those diversified trainees has given me a chance to extend my level of skills beyond my field of expertise. Crop breeding for stress condition and use of appropriate analytical tools to generate effective report was also explained in the training program.
Moreover, I met some future collaborators with ICRISAT and UC Davis. I had a prolific discussion of collaboration with Dr. Aniruddha Ghosh to work on study of land availability for early rabi crop season by using remote sensing technology. This study may give me a prior knowledge and support for my PhD research topic where I am going to identify early heat tolerant wheat genotype and associated gene(s).
Overall, the training was an opportunity for me to learn and share knowledge and data handling skills among different Indian and international scientists at ICRISAT, Hyederabad, India.
