Core manual/RUP review offered in Spanish on Feb. 27
Prepare for the MDARD Core Pesticide Applicators Certification exam with this Spanish-speaking review session in West Olive, Michigan.
Michigan State University Extension is hosting a Core Manual/RUP review in Spanish on Feb. 27, 2020 at the Ottawa County Fillmore Complex Room E, 12220 Fillmore St, West Olive, MI 49460. This review is for Hispanic/Latino growers and farm workers interested in obtaining their Michigan Private Pesticide Applicator licence, and will be given in Spanish. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) Core Pesticide Applications Certification exam will immediately follow at 2:40 p.m.
The review covers the 12 chapters of the National Pesticide Applicators Certification Core Manual, which is available to purchase in Spanish at the National Pesticide Safety Education Center website. All participants are required to review this manual before coming to the training session.
The agenda is as follows:
- 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Review of the National Pesticide Applicator Certification Core Manual
- 12 to 1 p.m. Lunch (will be provided)
- 1 to 2:30 p.m. Continue Core Manual Review
- 2:30 to 2:40 p.m. Coffee break
- 2:40 to 5 p.m. Pesticide Applicator Certification Exam
Four recertification/RUP credits in either Private or Commercial Core are available for those already certified and seeking renewal by seminar credits.
The cost of the review session is $20 and is separate from the MDARD exam fee. Those taking the exam must bring a separate check made payable to State of Michigan. The cost for the Private exam is $50 and the Commercial exam is $75.

New for 2020: Free respirator fit test offered after exam
If you are interested in getting your respirators fit-tested to be compliant with the Worker Protection Standards, you can do so for free between 1:30 and 4 p.m. in Conference Room C of the Ottawa County Fillmore Complex. You should take your respective exams from MDARD prior to getting a respirator fit test. In order to be fit tested, you will need to bring a completed medical evaluation, your respirator with particulate filters attached and be clean-shaven.
