Feed the Future Nigeria Agricultural Policy Project supports Kaduna State Ministry to promote Accurate Data Collection and Policy Formulation for Effective Implementation.
Building on training on “data analysis for policy” conducted by the project in March 2017, the project has collaborated with the Kaduna State Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry on land access for agriculture research. As part of continuing capacity building, officials, including the Director, Planning Research and Statistics and the Director, Project Monitoring and Evaluation participated in 3 focus group discussions with 36 participants held across the state, followed by training of 43 participants for data collection on land availability and use.
The ministry staff were supported to articulate and present the experience of Kaduna State (an FTF focus state) in data collection activities towards formulation of the state’s agricultural policy and its subsequent effective implementation. This interaction and training culminated in a dialogue that took place on the week of November 13, 2017 at Stanzel Grand Resort Hotel, Gwarimpa, FCT, Abuja. These exchanges on land development and use has fed into the design of the data collection exercise (which involves faculty and students in higher education institutions as well as staff of the ministry). This project activity is in line with the objective of enhancing the national capacity for evidence based policy processes in agriculture.
