Lake Michigan salmon and trout stocking survey closes May 15

EmailFour options are now being considered as fisheries managers take public input on the future of Lake Michigan salmon and trout stocking.
On April 14,
fisheries managers and anglers from around Lake Michigan shared information and
perspectives at the Lake Michigan Salmon Stocking Workshop. The entire recorded
meeting is now available online along with a briefing document and video that
describe four options for reducing stocking and limiting the risk of fishery
collapse.
The four options are as follows:
- OPTION 1: 50% reduction in Chinook salmon stocking for 2013.
- OPTION 2: 50% reduction in Chinook salmon stocking for 2013; automatically adjust stocking in future based on feedback policy.
- OPTION 3: 50% reduction in Chinook salmon stocking and 10% reduction in coho salmon, steelhead, and brown trout stocking for 2013; automatically adjust stocking in future based on feedback policy.
- OPTION 4: 50% reduction in Chinook salmon stocking and 10% reduction in coho salmon, steelhead, brown trout, and lake trout stocking for 2013; automatically adjust stocking in future based on feedback policy.
