In an effort to assist chestnut growers in making pesticide and nutrient management decisions, an updated “Michigan Chestnut Management Guide” is available through Michigan State University Extension. The guide includes a listing of registered pesticides, an orchard activity calendar, nutrient management recommendations, information on seasonal pest occurrence and much more. To protect yourself, others and the environment, always read the label before applying any pesticide.

Michigan State University (MSU) Extension will be hosting a series of seven interactive online meetings this season to allow easy communication between producers and MSU faculty. These informal sessions will include crop and pest updates from Rob Sirrine and Erin Lizotte as well as deep dives by university specialists with topics ranging from disease management to irrigation and nutrient management. In addition, MSU faculty and veteran growers will drop in to address timely issues and provide research project updates. Bring your field notes too! We want to hear what’s going on in your orchard.

These Thursday sessions begin May 21 and run every other week through Sept. 3 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. EST. Registration is free but required. Sign up now.
