Michigan voters approve all 11 MSU Extension county millages

Every day, Michiganders turn to Michigan State University Extension — the part of Michigan State University that connects people with free and low-cost classes, trusted information, and local experts — for help.
They learn everything from beekeeping to budgeting; they prepare to buy their first home, improve their family farm, cook healthier dinners, and discover leadership through 4-H.
And on Aug. 4, voters in all 11 Michigan counties where MSU Extension millage requests appeared on the ballot chose to continue investing in that work.
Residents in Alger, Alpena, Clare, Gratiot, Ionia, Luce, Montcalm, Ogemaw, Osceola, Schoolcraft and Wexford Counties approved local millage requests to fund MSU Extension's work in their respective areas.
“Every day, our goal is to invest in the lives of Michiganders, and we’re so grateful to Michiganders for investing in us too,” said Quentin Tyler, director of MSU Extension. “To us, these results show that people value having trusted, local expertise available when they need it. And we don’t take that responsibility for granted.”
Last year, nearly 300,000 Michiganders participated in one of the 8,000 classes, workshops and events offered by MSU Extension.
But Extension’s impact reached far beyond classrooms.
In 2025, educators answered more than 6,000 questions through the free Ask Extension service. The organization also partnered with 675 schools, nearly 250 agricultural organizations and 150 libraries across the state. Through the MSU Product Center, businesses served by Extension generated $2.5 billion in annual sales for Michigan's economy.
Tyler said those numbers represent the staff, volunteers, partners, and participants who make Extension’s work possible.
“We’re grateful to everyone who helps make our work possible,” said Tyler. “Serving Michigan is a shared effort, and the best way we can thank Michiganders is by continuing to show up for them every day.”
