Michigan’s Bay and Thumb area vegetable meetings in 2016

In 2015, over 4,000 people registered for the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market EXPO in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This three-day event has overlapping educational sessions for fruit, vegetable and greenhouse growers and marketers. Often times it is hard to see everything you want. Michigan State University Extension is organizing additional smaller group, half-day sessions for Bay and Thumb area vegetable growers on Jan. 28, 2016, at Krzysiak’s House Restaurant in Bay City, Michigan, and on Feb. 25, 2016, at Lenny Miller’s Restaurant in Dryden, Michigan, to learn more about last season and plan for the next.
Participants will get to meet four of MSU's vegetable production research specialists focusing on vegetable diseases, weeds, cover cropping and insect pests. In addition, Phil Tocco will give a review of the final Food Safety Modernization Act ruling that rolls out this year. A variety of bulletins will be available for purchase on site, as well as copies of the session summaries from the Great Lakes EXPO so you can read up on the sessions that you may have missed this year.
Both meetings will feature a similar agenda from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., feature 2 RUP credits and a buffet lunch. Attendees must pre-register for $20. The agenda and registration options can be found at the 2016 Bay Thumb Vegetable Meetings Event page.
