More Resilient Michigan Workshop to be held October 29, 2025
As Michigan and the nation grapple with economic uncertainty, the need for resilience and forward-thinking solutions has never been greater.
Join leading experts, community leaders and others on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 12-6 p.m. at Michigan State University’s University Club in Lansing for the More Resilient Michigan Workshop—a dynamic, solutions-focused workshop designed to help Michigan navigate today’s most pressing challenges.
“We look forward to gathering with thought leaders, community change makers, policy experts, and residents from across Michigan to discuss the economic issues that matter most to our state,” said Erika Rosebrook, director of the MSU Extension Center for Local Government Finance and Policy. “From rising inflation and housing shortages to aging infrastructure and workforce challenges, Michigan communities are navigating complex, intersecting pressures. This event is about bringing together the latest research, practical strategies, and a network of engaged leaders to build resilience and shape a stronger, more adaptable future for all Michiganders.”
The event will kick off with Steven Miller, director of the MSU Center for Economic Analysis, who will provide a statewide and Lansing-area economic forecast. Following that, attendees will participate in a series of breakout sessions with talks on:
- Housing shortages and short-term rentals
- Inflation perceptions in Michigan
- Federal reconciliation and the State of Michigan
- Artificial intelligence and infrastructure
- Net flow of federal funds to states and counties
- Building trust in local institutions
After the breakout sessions, attendees will gather for two additional plenary talks, including a discussion on water infrastructure in Michigan cities led by Rosebrook. Educational sessions will end with a presentation on state banks and public infrastructure investment provided by Richard Werner, a professor of banking and economics at the University of Winchester in England.
“Not only will attendees have the opportunity to hear from experts on vital topics throughout the day, but they will also have the opportunity to connect with peers who are committed to shaping a more resilient future,” said Mark Skidmore, an MSU professor and current Morris Chair in State and Local Government Finance and Policy. “The networking reception gives a chance to engage with fellow leaders, share ideas, and build connections that will last well beyond the event.”
