MSU CRFS Seeks a Professional Aide

We're hiring! The Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems (CRFS) is seeking a part-time hourly Professional Aide. This person will collaborate with the comms team to provide design, written, and social media support.

The Michigan State University Center for Regional Food Systems (CRFS) within the Department of Community Sustainability is seeking a part-time hourly Professional Aide. This person will join the two full-time CRFS Communications professionals to support the communications and design needs of the organization. The ideal candidate will be independent, detail-oriented, and comfortable problem solving.   

Responsibilities may include design support, social media management, updating the CRFS website, some writing assignments, and other duties as assigned.   

  • Design support may entail publication layout using existing templates. Other tasks may include updating existing print materials files, InDesign publication templates, and Microsoft PowerPoint templates to meet branding guidelines and staff needs. 
  • Social media management will include the drafting and scheduling of 2-3 social media posts per week with associated graphics. Using Loomly, a social media scheduler, the posts will be shared across multiple platforms including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and X (Twitter). Regular monitoring of feeds will be expected. Monthly analytics are to be collected and reviewed for trends and ideas for best practices going forward.  
  • Updates to the content on the website may also be requested. This can include uploading of documents, graphics, and other communications materials for the various programs and projects of CRFS.  
  • Writing clearly and concisely will be a useful skill in many of these responsibilities to showcase the work of CRFS through these multiple channels. Additional written assignments may be needed for short articles and webpage content.  
  • Other tasks may be assigned as needed.   

Hourly rate is $20-$25/hour, commensurate with experience. 

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical school or related field.
  • One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in communications, marketing, or related work.
  • Able to observe regular office hours as scheduled with supervisor.
  • High degree of knowledge of, and comfort and flexibility with, using technology in completing job requirements, including Microsoft Office suite and Sharepoint, Adobe InDesign, Canva, Social Media scheduling tool (such as Loomly, Buffer, or Hootsuite), task management software (such as Asana or ClickUp).
  • Proven ability to self-direct and balance multiple streams of work and deliverables simultaneously, and to easily shift between working independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communications skills and experience using a broad range of communication tactics.
  • Understanding of, and committed to, a culture of anti-racism and inclusivity.
  • May require occasional on-site work on campus and throughout Michigan.
