Nature's Engineers Camp: Day 5

Skits, Skills, and Thrills!

Nature's Engineers Camp: Day 5

The last day of a fun-filled week, where we learned a lot of good skills and interesting things, from fishing to milking. Here is what we did!

Meaning, the baby goats! Instead of doing goat milking, our campers got to visit the Kids that live next to our adult goats. there we learned about how fast a baby goat can stand up and balance on top of high places. As our adult goats do, our baby goats love to get head pats and pets all day long. They for sure did not want us to leave!

Egg DissectionIMG_4920

Along with collecting eggs from our chickens and ducks, it's important to know about the differences between the eggs as well as what's inside them. So, we cracked an egg in a bowl to have a look, to discover some pretty amazing things! Afterwards we made 2D images of eggs that they could keep with them to take home.

A team-building exercise, for the entire group to balance on a beam without it tipping over to one side. This activity was very tricky, since it involved a lot of balance each time somebody new got on! Eventually, each group did make it, and lots of laughter was heard.

Marshmallow BridgeIMG_4955

Another team-building exercise to create a marshmallow bridge out of small 'mellows and toothpicks, to try and create a sturdy structure. As it was marshmallows, a lot of the time in warm weather they tend to melt and get sticky very fast, so a lot of fun was had trying to get the marshmallows from sticking everywhere!

IMG_4965Time to Test!

Hurricane houses are done and ready! Time to test them against the elements to see if they still stand. the first test was water, so each structure was sprayed with a hose, them hit by a "tree" which was a rubber mallet, then blown by a powerful leaf blower. Some were able to stand after the test! because we are a sustainable farm, we put the cardboard structures in a wagon to be recycled.

The PerformanceIMG_4974

At the end of the day, all the parents came down to the pavilion to be introduced to our amazing staff members, and perform some skits that the campers have been working on the entire week! We had some amazing songs, and some skits about funny fishing adventures, which may or may not include a snapping turtle! What a way to end Nature's Engineers week!
