Harkirat Kaur completed her PhD this Spring, and has much to celebrate, including a new paper in Agronomy Journal “Planting time and seeding rate impact insect feeding, ear rots, and forage nutritive value in silage corn” with Christina Difonzo, Kimberly A. Cassida, Martin I. Chilvers, Maninderpal Singh, a new position as Assistant Professor Extension Specialist in Corn Production Systems at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a great experience at MSU.
Including the many long drives to the field and the many hours in the field and lab, Harkirat says that going to MSU “was one of the best decisions of my life.”
“I was always interested in crop science research, and I wanted to experience going to grad school somewhere outside India. So, when I was looking for grad school, MSU seemed to have great opportunities and had a thriving agricultural school. Besides that, MSU scientists had research collaborations with scientists at my undergraduate school, so several professors at my UG school had good things to say about it. So, eventually all roads pointed to Michigan.
Harkirat says she hopes to be part of UW-Madison Extension “for a long time. I am excited to work on the crop that has been my research training ground and looking forward to all the opportunities and collaborations to come.”
