Many field crop seeds planted throughout the Midwest are treated with pesticides. Proper application and product selection throughout the seed treatment process is important for plant and environmental health. This August and September 2026, join Michigan State University Extension at in-person or online events for seed treatment education.
Seed treatment webinars
Two separate webinars will be offered with the first on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 12 to 2 p.m. This webinar will address seed treatment equipment maintenance and best practices with Rick Smith from KSI International and reducing and responding to pesticide exposure with MSU Extension field crops educators Jenna Falor and Nicolle Ritchie.
The second webinar will be held Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. It will feature fungicide seed treatment product efficacy and decision-making by MSU Extension field crops pathologist Marty Chilvers, and product use rate calculations, colorants and carriers by Falor and Ritchie.
Two restricted use pesticide (RUP) credits in the categories 1A, 4 and Core and CCA credits have been requested for each webinar. The cost is $10 per webinar or $20 for both sessions.

Seed treatment in-person workshop
An in-person seed treatment workshop will take place at the Tuscola County MSU Extension Office, 362 Green St, Caro, MI 48723, on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Topics will include use rate calculations, seed treatment equipment maintenance, personal protective equipment, industry trends, fungicide seed treatments and storage and disposal of pesticides and treated seeds.
Four RUP (1A, 4 and Private) and CCA credits have been requested for the in-person workshop. The cost is $20 and lunch is provided. See the full agenda and register at the following:
