Fusarium head blight, or scab, is one of the most destructive diseases that can affect wheat. Both grain yield and grain quality losses can be observed when Fusarium head blight is severe. Quality losses include lower test weight and contamination of grain by mycotoxins, e.g., deoxynivalenol (DON or vomitoxin), that are produced by the Fusarium head blight fungus (Fusarium graminearum). Our pathology colleagues Carl Bradley, Pierce Paul and Christina Cowger from the University of Kentucky, the Ohio State University and North Carolina State University/USDA-ARS will be giving webinars on head scab management sponsored by the U.S. Wheat and Barley Scab Initiative and hosted through the American Society of Agronomy.
