Update to late blight website includes potato late blight fungicides

New information on the Late Blight Risk Monitoring website plus an update on the potato disease situation in Michigan.

A major update to the Michigan Potato Diseases Late Blight Risk Monitoring website is now available for the potato industry. A new “Fungicide rates” menu was added with products and rates linked to risk conditions across Michigan. In addition, by clicking on the product name a new window will open with a link to the manufacturers’ labels for each product on the TIRMS website. The TIRMS website is kept up-to-date with all modifications to pesticide labels posted as they are changed by manufacturers.

As of Tuesday, June 25, 2013, there remains great variability in the Disease Risk Severity accumulations for both late blight and early blight (P-values) across the state. These are updated daily and stations across Michigan can be compared on the Late Blight Risk Monitoring website. The accumulations were initiated on May 1 and for many parts of the state, potatoes were only planted mid- to late May. It is possible to accumulate late blight risk based on emergence date. According to risk accumulations for early blight, fungicide applications should now be initiated having reached P-value = 300.

According to Michigan State University Extension, no late blight has been found in potatoes in Michigan, Wisconsin or Ontario, although there was a recent report from Maryland of late blight on tomatoes (11 days ago). The genotype has not yet been reported.
