About Me
I am a PhD student interested in open-source technology, its integration with biological science, and broadening the impact of this work outside of the lab. I aim to empower researchers and educators, along with the general public to ask new questions with the novel, accessible tools I develop.
Education & Certifications
- A.S. in Biology | 2022 | Clovis Community College, Clovis, NM
- B.S. in Biology & General Studies | 2025 | Texas Tech University, Lubbock, TX
- Ph.D. in Horticulture | Projected Completion: 2030 | Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI
Research Interests
My dissertation research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of powdery mildew resistance in Phlox spp by developing open-source technologies that broaden research capabilities and improve STEM identity development in the classroom. I am currently working with FarmBot (farm.bot) to develop a more robust research and educational platform in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students in MSU’s College of Education and the 4-H Children’s Garden.
Future Work
I am a passionate scientist that strives to continually improve myself and my work so I can be prepared for whatever comes next. After completing my Ph.D I plan to work in bioinformatics or biotechnology, but am open to any and all opportunities that cross my path.
Fun Fact
When I am not at work or studying for classes, I can usually be found reading, doing crafts or hanging out with the wonderful friends I have made at Michigan State University!
