Kayla Mitchell
Kayla Mitchell is a Michigan State University Extension 4-H Program Coordinator in St. Joseph County. She has served in this role since 2022.
In her role as 4-H Program Coordinator, Kayla provides leadership and management of local 4-H programs, volunteers, and youth participants in St. Joseph County. She promotes and strengthens the St. Joseph County 4-H program by developing programs and partnerships, promoting and evaluating 4-H programs, and recruiting and training volunteers. Kayla is also the liaison from the state Michigan 4-H office who helps to ensure that statewide opportunities and information are available to local participants.
Kayla grew up in her county's 4-H program, serving 12 years as a 4-H member, exhibiting many still projects and showing all livestock species at one time or another. After her youth participation, Kayla became a beef leader where she volunteered for 7 years before becoming the local program coordinator. She received a State Award for goats, received the Achievement, Service, Leadership scholarship, participated in Exploration Days and Summer 4-H Camp, and was the 2012 Sweepstakes Showmanship Champion.
Before joining MSU Extension, Kayla attended Michigan State University where she worked as a student assistant in human resources, served as philanthropy and public relations chairs for Sigma Alpha professional agricultural sorority, and served as recreation, public relations, and social chairs for the MSU Rodeo Club. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness Management with classes specializing in agronomy. Kayla has spent a number of years in the agricultural industry and in management. She is excited to be back in her home county serving the community who has given so much to her over the years.
