Lisa Bottomley
Lisa Bottomley is the co-director of the MSU Extension Children and Youth Institute. In this role, Bottomley supervises academic and administrative staff, provides day-to-day leadership for institute administrative operations and educational programs, and translates CYI’s vision into action. She oversees and provides leadership to staff as they respond to emerging issues, provides advice about implementation of programs, and creates/strengthens linkages among MSU Extension institutes and aligned research and education programs at MSU.
Bottomley first joined MSU Extension in 2000 as a 4-H educator focused on youth mentoring in Ottawa County. She took on additional responsibilities in 2008 as mentoring specialist and was promoted to a senior specialist in 2012. Since then, she has become a respected expert on youth mentoring and volunteer management among national and international audiences. Before taking on the role permanently, Bottomley twice filled important roles as acting CYI co-director and interim CYI associate director, all while providing leadership for MSU Extension’s volunteer policies and processes.
Bottomley has a Bachelor of Science in sociology from Central Michigan University. She received a Master of Arts degree in youth development from MSU in 2009.
