RayShawnda Temple is a dedicated professional committed to improving community health and wellness through education and empowerment. Her journey with Michigan State University Extension began in July 2019, when she joined as a Community Nutrition Instructor under the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP). In this role, she fostered vital partnerships throughout Wayne County, delivering free, evidence-based nutrition and physical activity programs to under-resourced children and families. Her efforts aimed to enhance participants' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors towards food and fitness, laying the foundation for healthier lifestyles.

In March of 2024, her passion and expertise led her to the role of Supervising and Staff Development Educator for the Nutrition and Physical Activity Team in Wayne County. Here, she is responsible for coaching, training, and evaluating her team, ensuring that programming requirements and objectives align within grant compliance. She actively collaborates with community partners to assess participant needs to enhance program effectiveness, and she is committed to cultivating a positive work environment that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and a sense of fun among staff members.

RayShawnda earned a bachelor's degree in Nutrition and Food Science with a minor in Spanish from Wayne State University, and she is currently a candidate for a Master of Public Health degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine. Her work in the community, academic achievement, and commitment to addressing the disparities that impact the health of minorities earned her the prestigious 2022-23 Graduate Professional Scholarship and the 2023 John B. Waller Public Health Endowment Scholarship. She is proficient in Spanish and holds certifications in ServSafe, Adult, and Youth Mental Health First Aid.
