Two Year Certificate Programs

There are three Certificate (2-year) programs in the Department of Plant, Soil and Microbial Sciences. These are:

 

Agricultural Industries Ag industries interns in the field looking at corn seedlings

The Agricultural Industries program trains students to work in agribusinesses in Michigan, including the feed, grain, and crop production industries. Students take courses in agronomy and business and complete an internship in their area of interest. This 18 month technical training program consists of two 15-week semesters and one 10-week semester, for a total of 48 credits. A certificate is granted at the completion of the program requirements.

Golf Turf Management

Training in the Golf Turf Management program is directed toward preparing the student for a career as a golf course superintendent. This 18 month technical training program consists of two 15-week semesters and two 10-week semesters, for a total of 54 credits. A certificate is granted at the completion of the program requirements.

Sports and Commercial Turf Management

The turfgrass industry has a multitude of interesting and exciting career opportunities. The Sports and Commercial Turf Management program is offered to students interested in specializing in a career in the sports or commercial turf management area. This integrated program emphasizes the science and art of turf management. Additional areas of skills include landscape, mechanical, and business. The core of the learning experience is the placement training received on-the-job with pay. A certificate is granted at the completion of the program requirements.
