  • Site characteristics: Full sun to partial shade; very adaptable to a variety of soils
  • Zone: 5b - 9a
  • Wet/dry: Tolerates wet and intermittently flooded sites; drought-tolerant
  • Native range: Hybrid of Asian and North American species
  • Salt: Tolerant
  • pH: 5.0 - 8.2
  • Ornamental characteristics: Exfoliating bark
  • Shape: Pyramidal when young, open, spreading wage
  • Foliage: Medium green
  • Fall color: Yellow, brown
  • Other: Cultivars include ‘Bloodgood’ (maple-green foliage, tolerates severe pruning, rapid grower), ‘Columbia’ and ‘Liberty.’
  • Additional: Transplant in spring or fall
  • Pests: ‘Columbia’ and ‘Liberty’ are resistant to anthracnose and powdery mildew while ‘Bloodgood’ is moderately resistant. Cankerstain may be a problem.
