Before Reading:
- Show your child the front of the book and encourage them to explore it. They may want to hold it, turn the pages, or even taste it!
- Tell your child you are going to read a story about a very special night.
While Reading:
- Stop if there is something you or your child would like to talk about. Ask questions so they can connect what is happening in the book to things they already know about.
- “The sound of your name is a magical one. Let’s say it out loud before we go on.” Say their name nice and loud!
- Ask your child to point out what they see. Name and identify the pictures.
- There’s the moon! It is round and bright.
- I see some ducks! Quack, quack!
- What are those polar bears doing?
After Reading:
- Spend some time talking about the story.
- Ask your child to point out their favorite animal from the story.
- Tell your child why you love them and why they are so special
Read this book several times to the children. Hearing the same story again and again helps them learn new words and understand the ideas the hear better. Each day pick a different activity to do with the children after reading.
