The Michigan State University Soil and Plant Nutrient Lab ceased operation as of Dec. 31, 2022. Arrangements are being made with another laboratory partner to perform the analysis of soil samples. Please do not ship any samples to the MSU Soil and Plant Nutrient Lab as they will not be processed. We will share details on where soil samples can be sent once the details are finalized.
MSU Extension educators and fertility specialists are available to answer soil fertility and management questions through Ask Extension or by contacting your local MSU Extension office. MSU Extension continues to offer soil fertility recommendations for commercial agriculture crop nutrients and lime using results from any lab.These recommendations can be obtained online via the MSU Fertilizer Recommendation Program.
MSU is making upgrades and changes to the soil testing process for home lawns and gardens as well as agricultural crops soil analysis. New procedures and test kits are slated to be in place in Spring 2023 that will assist clients in obtaining results for all types of soil tests.
