As a nurse in the emergency department and intensive care unit, Sue has worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic to treat members of her community. Working at the only hospital in a small town, Sue has witnessed the vulnerability of this community firsthand. With less ICU beds, infectious disease specialists, and an increased physical distance from hospitals, this rural population is at high-risk for COVID-19 complications.

Not only did Sue experience the fear of COVID-19 professionally, but she was personally affected when her husband was hospitalized due to COVID-19 complications. Not being able to be by his side during this time, Sue was able to empathize with her patients who were scared, isolated, and alone. When the COVID-19 vaccination became available, Sue got vaccinated to protect herself, her family, and her community. She urges her community to talk to their healthcare providers about the COVID-19 vaccine and make an informed vaccine decision.
