Undergraduate Awards & Scholarships

The Department of Agriculture, Food and Resource Economics undergraduate awards annually between $70,000 to $85,000 per year. The awards and scholarships are highly competitive and typically go to students who are academically strong, active in the department, and engaged within the profession.

To be considered for a scholarship, students must apply annually. A call for scholarship applications will be e-mailed to students in the Spring semester. *Note scholarships available to admitted Freshman students.

Kenneth and Eleanor Coulter

Agribusiness Management major
Sound academic performance
Preference to graduates from high schools in Arenac, Bay, Midland, Iosco, Isabella counties
Intend to pursue career in Agriculture Economics field
Award at least $500 but not more than $1000 per student per year
Award for fall semester
A student can receive this award more than once

Glynn McBride Farm Co-op

Agribusiness Management major
Desire a career in development, sustainability, and advancement of Coops
At least a sophomore, preferably a junior or senior
First preference-award to graduate of a Michigan high school (or withinS.)
3.0 GPA or higher, some discretion
Requests scholarship be equally divided between two semesters
Student must refund remainder if he/she leaves MSU

Redmond and Edna Cotter

Agribusiness Management major
Interest in agribusiness career
Good academic performance
Leadership in college/department activities
Work experience
Award once per year, use in fall semester

Harry A Foster

Agribusiness Management major
Divided between Econ. and Horticulture departments
Sophomore or above
Minimum GPA 75
May consider need, extra-curricular activities, leadership
Preference for work experience in fruit/vegetable industry
Award for fall semester

Harsh Family

Agribusiness Management major
Preference interest in production agriculture (farms, ranches, greenhouses) input sector supporting production agriculture
Preference for students not eligible for any other fin aid
Award once per year, use in fall semester

**Mondelez Global Food and Agriculture Scholarship (available to Freshman)

Food Industry Management (FIM) or Agribusiness Management majors (ABM)
Preference interest in working in Agriculture or Food Industry (Marketing, Production, Operation, Retail, Procurement, Logistics, or Sales)
Awarded to admitted Freshman to the Ag, Food and Resource Economics Department majoring in ABM or FIM
Award is split between Fall and Spring Semester and student must continue matriculating towards a FIM or ABM major degree
Preference will be given to residents of Michigan Thumb Region and/or interest in Wheat production, but not restricted to

Food Industry Management major
Students must have demonstrated academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and a passion for the food industry
Awarded to students that have reached Juniors or above
Preference to students interested in working in the produce industry, but not restricted to

Students must have demonstrated academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and a passion for the

Jake and Maxine Ferris Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarship

Food Industry Management, Agribusiness Management, or Environmental Management major
Be junior or senior status at the time of travel
Be declared as and making progress towards an ABM, FIM, and EEM major
Be in good academic standing (2.0 or higher GPA)
Be a domestic student (international students are not eligible)
Be participating in an MSU sponsored study aboard program
Preference may be given to students who have not received this scholarship before
