Miscanthus
Miscanthus is a grass that is native to Asia that has been grown in Europe and burned for heat and power. Miscanthus grows well under low input conditions, making it a candidate for biofuel production in the United States. Miscanthus is thought to be one of the most efficient crops at capturing solar radiation and converting it into plant material. The root system is highly developed and acts as a store for carbon. Not only can it be used to create energy, but also reduces greenhouse gases.
There are a number of species of Miscanthus, many of which are planted as ornamental grasses. Miscanthus giganteus is sterile and propagated by root division and therefore should pose no threat as a noxious weed.
