Edge-of-Field Research

Edge-of-Field Research Project

Project Goal: The goal of this project was to improve water quality while maintaining crop productivity.

Project Objective: The main objective of this project was to investigate the effectiveness of conservation drainage practices to reduce nutrient loss from subsurface-drained farms.

Project Method: Our project consisted of three on-farm experimental sites in the River Raisin watershed that includes two sites with controlled drainage and one site with a saturated buffer. We monitored nitrate, total phosphorus and dissolved reactive phosphorus in subsurface drainage discharge.
