4-H On the Move: Detroit Cultural Connection Camp

4-H On the Move: Detroit Cultural Connection Camp is a three-day spring break day camp experience for middle and high school youth that helps them build cultural awareness, empathy, and a deeper understanding of Detroit’s diverse communities. The highlight of the program is a full-day guided bus tour through Metro-Detroit with hands-on cultural activities and community engagement opportunities. This experience is supported by a pre-tour preparation day focused on helping youth view the world through a cultural lens, and a post-tour reflection day where youth process what they learned and consider how to create positive, inclusive change in their own communities.
When: March 30th-April 1st, 2026
Who: Youth ages 13-19 (as of Jan 1, 2026)
Where: Stationary Camp sessions and bus tour pick up and drop off will take place at the Jefferson Barnes Community Vitality Center (32150 Dorsey St, Westland, MI 48186 )
Cost: $55 per participant (full camp value $255), which includes:
- Full-day Metro Detroit bus tour
- All meals during the bus tour
- Hands-on workshops & activities
- Pre- and post-tour sessions
- 4-H camp T-shirt
Tentative Camp Agenda as follows:
Day 1: Monday, March 30, 2026
Location: Jefferson Barns Community Center
Time: 10 am-4 pm
Activities: Cultural awareness, team building, thinking through a cultural lens, and bus tour orientation.
Day 2: Tuesday, March 31, 2026
Location: Start and end at Jefferson Barnes
Time: 8 am-5:30 pm
Activities: Bus Tour Day around Metro Detroit!
Day 3: Wednesday, April 1, 2026
Location: Jefferson Barns
Time: 10 am-3 pm
Activities: Reflection, connection activities, feedback surveys, participation certificates
