We’d like to offer you the opportunity to get outside, explore nature, go for a walk, and inhale some nice, fresh air. So we bring you, Spartan Nature Walks. Our department tree experts are full of fun facts and will guide you throughout Baker Woodlot for some peace of mind.

The walks begin at the EAST entrance to the woodlot on Bogue Street, next to the Life Science building, and take place from 1-2 PM.

Fall 2025 Schedule

Saturday, Dec 13

1-2PM

Winter Buds, Bark & Birds: Baker Woodlot

The leaf-off period makes Baker Woodlot a perfect classroom. Doctoral student Parker Hopkins is leading December's walk, where we’ll practice winter tree identification using buds, bark, and branching patterns; look for tracks and other signs of wildlife; and tune our ears to the resident birds that stay active throughout the cold season.

Saturday, Nov 1

1-2PM

Doctoral student Thomas Hennessey will guide November’s walk. While walking us through the woodlot, Thomas will discuss the onset of fall and the role of wind, sun, and chemistry in fall colors. We are expecting perfectly crisp fall weather and we look forward to seeing you there!
