  • NARUC passes a resolution endorsing the IPU's Annual and Advanced Regulatory Studies Programs, as well as the Eastern and Western Annual Seminars on Regulation of Water Companies (administered by the Water Committee in cooperation with the University of Utah), and the Basics of Regulation and the Ratemaking Process sponsored by the Center for Public Utilities at New Mexico State University.
  • Prof. Trebing is recognized with an award from the University of Florida (PURC).

  • IPU sponsors the first commissioners-only Technical Education Conference ("TEC," later called The Education Conference and the Current Policy Issues Forum) at the NARUC Winter Meeting; the conference is eventually held in eastern and western locations in conjunction with NARUC meetings through 1995. Over the years, IPU also sponsors several Regional Training programs for introductory education (c. 1980s).
  • NARUC established the National Regulatory Research Institute (NRRI) at The Ohio State University; regular state funding begins in 1981.
