 Horse Judging & Hippology

  • Looking for other ways to learn about horses? Join our Hippology and Horse Judging teams! Horse ownership is not required.
  • Horse Judging teaches what judges look for in conformation (halter) and performance (riding) classes. Great stuff to know if you ever shop for a horse of your own. Youth will also learn develop good judgment and keen observations skills to make accurate decisions, and will learn how to defend these decisions with logical oral reasons.

  • Horse Hippology is the study of all horse-related knowledge, including judging, anatomy, breeds, colors, care, equipment, health and welfare, and riding disciplines. This program will help youth expand their general horse knowledge, as well as allowing them to show their mastery of various equine topics while interacting with equine professionals.

  • These programs runs November-March annually, with the contest in April. Contact the MSU Extension office at 517-546-3950 for more information.
