2022 Farm Animal Camp: Day 5
Moos, Neighs, and Plays. It's Friday Fun Day!
Farm Animal Camp: Day 5
Party, party, yeah! It's Friday, the most fun day of the week, and every last camper is dressed in tie-dye t-shirts, and ready to take on all the activities of the day:
Animal Safari
Don't we usually have animal chores? Yes we do, however today was more of an exploration of all the different animals that we see at MSU Tollgate Farms. Today, each group of campers got to spend time with every one of our goats, bunnies, chickens, duck, and sheep, to learn more about them and what goes in to taking care of them at MSU Tollgate. Also, we did complete all our animal chores along the way!
Moo to You
What goes into milk products, and how are milk products made start to finish? We learned a out what it takes to go from the cow and into other products through multiple different processes that make things like butter, ice cream, cheeses, and so on. It was a really inquisitive learning experience for the campers and the stewards!
Pesto & Smoothies
We loved the pesto recipe so much we brought it back to Garden Kitchen again! Campers cut spinach and basil to put into the blender, along with some cheese, garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper to make a mouth-watering pesto. Since it is Friday and the campers will be doing a performance for their parents in the afternoon, the afternoon recipe is a Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie that is ready for the campers to grab n' go to get some extra energy before their amazing performances.
Wrens & Jays
A classic Tollgate farm game, that requires a lot of skill in being sneaky. There is one Jay, and the rest of the group are Wrens, who are trying to hide their nests (tiny plastic cups) while filling it with eggs (beans) without the Jay discovering where the nest is located. This game is usually played in our Children's Garden, so there are plenty of places to hide the nests. The one Wren with the most eggs in the nest wins!
Farm Olympics
Sound the trumpets! It is time to play some games! Our Olympics aren't made for the very serious, because we love to have loads of fun! We do some great sack races, hoop toss, egg drop, and wheelbarrow races galore, with campers forming teams of two within the group to compete with one another in good spirit. Each game is challenging, but with good teamwork and fast feet, these amazing campers can do anything!
Pony Rides
This was probably the most popular thing that the campers did today! We had two horses, Sedona and Gris who were very kind and let our campers take turns riding around the training pen at least once. They were extra sweet and patient with the campers and we couldn't ask for a better staff that also helped the campers get on and off the horses. A great time was had by all, and yes, plenty of pictures were taken!
Popsicles & Skits
After a long really hot day, what's better than an ice-cold popsicle? Very, very few things. But we had an amazing presentation of all our songs, dances, and skits that the campers spent the entire week preparing for their families to see. We had a fun dance from one of the groups, and another did a funny chicken dance! What a fun and laughter-filled way to end this lovely Farm Animal Camp week, we here at tollgate cannot wait to do even more amazing things starting next week!
